Fall 2013 Classes Update

So this semester I took 17 credits: Freshmen English, Beginning Algebra, Intro to Psych, Accounting, and Government. It is time to break them down.

Accounting: I took this class because I really want to do a Summer (2014) paid internship. I have no idea how yet, but I am looking into it soon. I love accounting. IT IS FUN. Although, I am not the biggest fan of the professor. Papke is very... animated? He is a bit older too. He is nice and all. He took the time to learn all our names and that's cool. Not many professors do that. But he doesn't care about putting the date... or putting the cents... or anything... it gets frustrating. Also I sit next to an older woman who misses a lot of class and she is always trying to talk to me about her kids during class. We have had assigned seats the whole class so I can't get away from it. And she always asks me the answers and she looks at my tests. So annoying. I am pulling above 100% in that class. I think it's like 113% now. Not too shabby

Freshmen English: This class is only once a week and three hours long. It isn't awful. It is actually really easy. I sit next to this kid and he is really nice. We kinda goof around during "free time" and it gets pretty funny. We have about three homework assignments a week. Usually includes writing a paper and two readings. The professor is young and she is pretty funny. I am getting about 95% in this class. She said she never gives 100% so I guess this is sort of acceptable. I am really shooting for  a 4.0 this semester.

Government: This class. Oh my gosh. I essentially took this class (AP Government) my sophomore year of high school with Mr. Y. It was so much better in high school. This professor is so unorganized an spends 1/3 of the class talking to this old guy up in front about things that are hardly related to class. Every class the professor asks us what we have and haven't gone over. I mean, it's cool when a professor asks where we left off... but to ask us what we haven't gone over yet, then test us on things we haven't talked about? This is so frustrating. I have 100% in the class right now. So that's cool, but gee wiz, I would prefer if he actually taught. I am lucky I already took this class, otherwise I don't think I would be doing so well. Thanks Mr. Y.

Psychology: This was one of the classes I was more worried about. I have never taken a psychology class before (unlike the other 73% of my class) and so I have no background. I have yet to determine if I still need to worry. My first exam is on Oct. 17th. This exam is worth 1/3 of my grade. Why do professors do this??? I like the professor though. He is a smart ass, but the funny kind of smart ass. We have three tests and each is 1/3 of my grade. Not happy about that, but at least I am having fun in the class. I have to take developmental psychology and I asked him who he recommends and I guess that impressed him... He was like "Oh! That is smart of you to ask." Then he told me who I should select based on my learning styles and who he thinks I would benefit from most. That was really cool of him.

Algebra: Okay. I have never been good at math. Ever. Seriously. No. I am not just saying that. I have really, truly, honestly, ever been good at math. SO, saying that, I am currently pulling upper 90 percentile in this class. This person is the first professor or teacher that has really taught me how to math. I have to take another algebra class after this one and I am hoping that he is teaching it. If he is teaching Math 121 next semester, I am basing my schedule around that class. No matter what, I am taking that class. We have had three tests so far. On the first one I got 97%. The second one, 99%. Third, 100%. I get math because of this professor.

So yeah. That's how I am doing in school. I am aiming for a 4.0, but I am okay with accepting a 3.75... anything less than that is unacceptable though. I am intelligent and if I do my best, I can get a 3.75... at the least though. I could totally get a 4.0. And I will.

Holy Education, Batman!

So I was entertaining the idea of going to MSU to get my teaching degree a few days ago. This "entertaining" turned into a huge idea. I went to an advising appointment and he said some things. This is how I interpreted it: So you're buying a pair of jeans. Both do the same thing, cover your legs. The only thing is, one pair is designer while the other is not. So it's an additional thousands of dollars. This really put it in perspective for me. Either way, you're going to get the same job that pays the same amount. Why not do it the financial responsible way? Also MSU only transfers a few classes while GVSU transfers a whole bunch.

So I decided on GVSU. I also actually looked at the classes required to get my teaching degree. Basically, I can ALMOST complete my history minor at KCC which is really cool. Not so much the English major though. Something super cool is that a world diversity elective is required and I thought that most of them looked suuuuuuper boring. However, one of the classes not only counts as WD, but also towards my history minor.

So I revamped my 2 year plan, and now I am taking 2 History credits a semester, some Literature classes, and no "throw away" courses. Why pay for something I don't need? I'm not going to college to take random classes that sound fun. I am going to become a teacher. So below, you see my schedule. Every class is to better my future and goes toward my Bachelors degree in secondary education with English focus and a history minor. Obviously, classes will move around based on availability.

I am so excited to start next semester!!
